Three-time PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele held off a fast finishing Louis Oosthuizen to win the LIV Golf Adelaide tournament at The Grange Golf Club by one stoke. The 41-year-old Steele shot a final round 68 Sunday for a 54-hole total of 18-under 198 to earn his first victory since he won his second Safeway Open in 2017 on the PGA Tour. Steele had a streak of five consecutive birdies early in the round, before some putting jitters appeared in his back nine to open the door for a fast finishing pack of challenges including Oosthuizen, and former previous Masters winners Charl Schwartzel (64) and Jon Rahm (64).

Three-time PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele shot an 8-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the LIV Tour's Adelaide tournament at The Grange Golf Club. The 41-year-old Steele's last PGA Tour victory came in 2017 when he won his second Safeway Open. He lost in a playoff to Cameron Smith at the 2020 Sony Open in Hawaii. Steele had a 36-hole total of 14-under 130 Saturday. He had a stretch of four birdies, a bogey and two more birdies in the middle of his round. Danny Lee was a stroke behind after a 67, followed by Carlos Ortiz (68) and Mito Pereira (67) in a tie for third, two behind Steele.

Grace Kim opened a four-stroke lead Friday in the LPGA Tour's JM Eagle LA Championship, shooting a 5-under 66 in tricky afternoon conditions at Wilshire Country Club. A stroke ahead after an opening 64, Kim had an eagle, four birdies and a bogey to get to 12-under 130. The 23-year-old Australian patiently worked her way around the tree-lined layup, trying not to get frustrated with the bumpy greens. Maja Stark was second after a 69, also in the afternoon. The Swede finished second last week in Texas in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda in the first major of the year. Korda withdrew Monday, a day after a record-tying fifth straight victory.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry held onto a share of the lead Friday in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, with the Irish duo shooting a 2-under 70 in alternate play in the PGA Tour's only team event. The teams of Davis Thompson-Andrew Novak, Ryan Brehm-Mark Hubbard and Aaron Rai-David Lipsky matched McIlroy and Lowry at 13-under 131 at TPC Louisiana. They will play best ball Saturday and close with alternate shot Sunday. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, the 2022 winners, were a stroke back with Callum Tarren-David Skinns, Nick Taylor-Adam Hadwin, Zach Johnson-Ryan Palmer, Luke List-Henrik Norlander and Corey Connors-Taylor Pendrith. McIlroy and Lowry, who opened Thursday with a best-ball 61, overcame Lowry's mid-round putting woes to close with consecutive birdies.

Jinichiro Kozuma birdied his first three holes in a bogey-free round of 9-under 63 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the LIV Series golf tournament in Australia. The Japanese player had seven birdies and an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole at The Grange on Friday, where last year's inaugural LIV Australian event featured one of the largest galleries of the year on the series. Carlos Ortiz and Danny Lee were tied for second with 64s and four other players were tied for fourth with 65s. The group included Jon Rahm, who has yet to win since joining LIV in December.
Frankie Capan III shoots 13-under 58 in Korn Ferry Tour event at Texas Rangers Golf Club

Frankie Capan III shot a 13-under 58 on Thursday in the Veritex Bank Championship at Texas Rangers Golf Club to tie the Korn Ferry Tour record for relation to par and match the second-lowest score in tour history. Capan played an eight-hole stretch in 9 under, making an eagle on the par-5 ninth and following with seven straight birdies. He two-putted for par on the par-4 17th, then hit into a fairway bunker on the par-5 18th and ended up saving par with a 7-foot putt. Cristobal Del Solar shot the lowest round in Korn Ferry Tour history with a 13-under 57 in February in the Astara Golf Championship. The 58 broke the course record of 59 set by Masters champion Scottie Scheffler in 2020.

McIlroy's introduction to New Orleans included a sampling of crab beignets from popular restaurant La Petite Grocery on Wednesday night, a meal he shared with Lowry. On Thursday, they feasted on the TPC of Louisiana.

Charlie Woods failed to advance in a U.S. Open local qualifying event Thursday, shooting a 9-over 81 at Legacy Golf & Tennis Club. The 15-year-old son of Tiger Woods tied for 61st among the 74 players who finished. The top five advanced to regional qualifying. Woods shot 40 on the front nine, opening bogey-double bogey. He followed a birdie on the par-3 fifth with another double bogey. He shot 41 on the back with three bogeys and a double bogey. The U.S. Open will be played June 13-16 at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.
McIlroy ready to return to PGA Tour policy board, and eager to enjoy his first trip to New Orleans

Rory McIlroy says he's interested in returning to PGA Tour's policy board and working to help the tour and LIV Golf complete a proposed merger. McIlroy says unification of the two tours is "the only way forward" for golf. McIlroy says he can be helpful in articulating the benefits of making that happen. The PGA Tour and LIV have agreed in principal to merge, but negotiations over how exactly to do that have become protracted. In the meantime, McIlory is focused on enjoying his first visit to New Orleans for the PGA Tour's lone team even, the Zurich Classic. McIlroy, who is from Northern Ireland, has teamed up with Irishman Shane Lowry. They are also former Ryder Cup teammates.

Jordan Spieth's left wrist injury isn't getting any better. But it's also not getting any worse. Spieth calls it a "come-and-go thing." It's a slightly torn sheath over the tendon on his left wrist. Spieth says if it flares up, he won't be able to play the next day. But then he could play the day after. He says the best treatment is rest and he's looking forward to an offseason where he can explore the best options.

Rory McIlroy could be rejoining the PGA Tour board just six months after he resigned. A person tells The Associated Press the move would require board approval. And it starts with Webb Simpson. The person says Simpson has submitted a letter offering to resign from the board but only if McIlroy replaces him. Such a move could be a sign of helping improve chances of getting a deal done with the Saudi backers of LIV Golf. Simpson has not resigned from the board yet. The tour board is expected to discuss the Simpson request as early as Wednesday.

The PGA Tour has its only team event at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The field features Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry for the first time, along with Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele. New Orleans has three sets of brothers among the 80 teams. Two of them are twins. Parker and Pierceson Coody are PGA Tour rookies. Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard are from Denmark. The LPGA Tour suffered a blow when Nelly Korda withdrew from LA right as she was coming off a major title and going for a record sixth straight win. LIV Golf is in Australia.

Nelly Korda is putting her bid for a historic sixth straight victory on hold. The LGPA golfer has officially withdrawn from the JM Eagle LA Championship, which begins Thursday at Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles. Korda tied Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam with her fifth straight win last weekend at the Chevron Championship in Houston, the year's first major. Korda says she's "definitely feeling exhausted" and needs to get some rest so she can be ready for the remainder of the LPGA season. Korda didn't indicate when she'll compete next. The next major is the U.S. Women's Open in Pennsylvania at the end of May.
Scottie Scheffler finishes off another win at Hilton Head to extend dominant run

Scottie Scheffler winning the RBC Heritage was inevitable. He returned to Harbour Town on Monday morning with a five-shot lead and three holes to play. Scheffler ended his streak of 68 holes at par or better with a meaningless bogey for a 68. That gives him a three-shot victory. He wins for the fourth time in his last five starts, which includes the Masters. Scheffler is the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the Masters and the following week on the PGA Tour. There is no one close to him in the game at the moment.
