WEST VALLEY CITY — Three students at Granger High School were shot with an airsoft gun on Tuesday, according to the Granite School District.
District spokesman Ben Horsley says the three boys were treated for minor injuries.
The incident happened about the same time most students were eating lunch. A Granite police officer noticed a "suspicious" vehicle circling the parking lot of the high school, 3580 S. 3600 West. Horsley says the officer was about to get into his patrol car to pull the vehicle over when the vehicle approached three students near the south entrance to the parking lot.
"Two suspects got out of the vehicle and discharged an airsoft gun toward the three students. They then entered their vehicle and attempted to flee the area but were quickly apprehended by Granite police. The three student victims received minor injuries. To be clear, no threats were made toward the general student body or the school, and the suspects immediately attempted to flee the area and were taken into custody off school property," the district said in a prepared statement.
Because of the quick apprehension, the school was not put on lockdown. Classes at Granger are proceeding as normal Tuesday afternoon. Horsley said most students were inside the school at the time and unaware that anything had happened.
The two boys in the fleeing vehicle were stopped within minutes with assistance from West Valley police. The Granite District says the boys who allegedly fired the airsoft guns are "students" who "will be facing serious administrative corrective action and criminal charges." Horsley did not immediately know Tuesday if the boys were students at Granger High School.
