ST. GEORGE — A middle school counselor was arrested in Nevada last week for investigation of crimes he is accused of committing over a decade ago in Washington County.
David Scott Curtis, 54, was arrested by officers in Mesquite, Nevada, on March 21, after Washington County authorities issued a warrant for his arrest. Curtis was charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a minor for allegations stemming from St. George, Mesquite Police Sgt. Wyatt Oliver said in a statement.
At the time of the arrest, Curtis was employed as a school counselor at Charles A. Hughes Middle School in Mesquite. The school is part of the Clark County School District in Nevada, which also covers the Las Vegas area.
Oliver told St. George News the district was unaware of any allegations against Curtis until the day the warrant was issued. Once it confirmed the information with St. George detectives, he said officers went directly to the middle school to arrest him.
