NAPLES, Uintah County — Two people were flown to the University Hospital in Salt Lake City after they were shot in Uintah County.

Naples police said about noon, the department got a report of shooting at a home near Naples Elementary School, 1640 E. 1900 South. When officers arrived, they found two people with gunshot wounds.

Naples Police Chief Nathan Simper said a person of interest was in custody. Details about what led up to the shooting have not been released.

Simper said a 35-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were injured, but he did not know their relationship to one another. Both were flown to the Salt Lake City hospital in critical condition but were said to be stabilized, Simper said.

Uintah School District placed Naples Elementary School on lockdown for about 10 minutes around the same time as the shooting Wednesday afternoon due to police activity in proximity to the school. When the lockdown was lifted, the school day continued as normal.
