COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A 12-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle and critically injured Monday in Cottonwood Heights, police said.
The boy was crossing the road northbound at 2200 East and Fort Union Boulevard at a marked crosswalk at 5:08 p.m. when the vehicle hit him, Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Gary Young said.
The 12-year-old was carrying an orange flag to let drivers know he was crossing the road, Young said. Two eastbound cars were approaching the crosswalk at the same time. One driver saw him but the other did not and struck him.
The boy was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, Young said. An update on his condition as of late Friday was not available, but Young said he had been stabilized.
The woman driving the vehicle that hit the boy was processed for DUI and will likely be booked into jail, Young said. Her name has not been released.
A crash reconstruction team was investigating the incident.
A second pedestrian was hit in a separate crash in Vineyard. Orem police said officers are investigating the scene near 400 South Vineyard Road.
Details about the crash were not released but police on scene described it as "very serious."
