PAROWAN — Two people are dead after a crash Friday evening on I-15 in southern Utah.

The crash happened about 8:17 p.m. southbound on the freeway 13 miles north of Parowan, the Utah Department of Public Safety reported. Utah Highway Patrol trooper Mike Alexander said a single vehicle — which was later identified as a Honda Civic — rolled for an unknown reason.

"The vehicle lost control and traveled off the road to the left into the median and rolled several times," said a release from the department.

The department said that five people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and that two female passengers, ages 19 and 17, were ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.

The names of those who were killed have not been released.

"The male driver and another female passenger suffered critical injuries and were flown to a local hospital. A fourth female passenger suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital," said the release.

Lanes were closed for approximately two hours while troopers investigated the crash and gathered evidence. As of Saturday morning, the "cause and contributors" to the crash remain under investigation.
