SALT LAKE CITY — Two people were killed and another was critically injured in three separate crashes in Salt Lake City.

The most recent crash happened about 7 a.m. Wednesday in the area of 2290 S. 1300 East when a SUV and a motorcycle collided. Based on initial observations, police believe an SUV was northbound on 1300 East before it turned onto 2290 South and hit the motorcycle in the intersection, according to a statement from Salt Lake police.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the male motorcyclist lying in the road. People attempted life-saving efforts, but the man died at the scene, police said. The driver of the SUV is cooperating with police.

Police shut down southbound 1300 East at 2100 South, and it was expected to remain closed for several hours. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

This crash was the 20th traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City in 2022.

Two more crashes, another involving a motorcyclist and one involving a skateboarder, occurred Tuesday night.

Car and motorcycle at 1440 S. Main

About 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, police say a car collided with a motorcycle at 1440 S. Main. Witnesses flagged down officers after the crash.

Officers found an unresponsive man in the road and attempted to revive him. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the car stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. "While speaking with the 23-year-old driver, officers observed signs of impairment and are looking into whether impairment played a factor in the crash," police said in a statement.

Detectives believe the motorcyclist tried to pass the car while the car was changing lanes southbound on Main Street, but the crash remains under investigation.

Car and skateboarder at 300 South and 700 East

In the second crash, a skateboarder was hit by a car at the intersection of 300 South and 700 East at 9:46 p.m. Tuesday. Police said they received multiple calls about the crash.

Paramedics performed life-saving measures on scene, but the man died after being taken to a hospital, police said. His name has not yet been released.

Investigators believe the skateboarder was crossing the street against the traffic light when he was hit by the car. The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police.
