SALT LAKE CITY — Waterford High continued its dominance in 3A boys tennis as the Ravens took home their third consecutive state championship Saturday afternoon.

Senior Lalith Suresh added to his own legacy and took home his third individual title.

Saturday's victory meant Suresh was able to win back-to-back first singles titles in 2021 and 2022. Suresh also won the second singles title as a freshman in 2019.

After helping Waterford win three state titles, Suresh will play tennis at the collegiate level at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Suresh has established himself as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022 and is the fourth-best player in Utah, according to tennisrecruiting.net.

Suresh entered the weekend's tournament as the top-ranked player in the 3A classification, and he played true to his ranking as he lost only two games across his four matches.

In the finals, Suresh played against Jaiden Handlon from Rowland Hall in a rematch of the 2021 first singles championship. Suresh won last year's matches 6-1 and 6-3. Suresh won by injury default when Handlon went down early in the first match.

Waterford took home the first and second doubles championships on their way to the state title; it's their fourth title in five years, and 11th total state championship.

The Ravens were able to make it past Rowland Hall, who had players in the first, second, and third singles championships, as well as the first doubles championship. Ultimately, Waterford finished one point ahead of Rowland Hall to take home the title.
