PROVO — Noticeably absent three weeks ago when BYU football coach Kalani Sitake reshuffled, reorganized and hired as many as eight new positions on his support staff was the lack of one name: recruiting director Jasen Ah You.
Now we know why.
Ah You has been promoted to assistant athletic director for football academics, where he'll work in the Cougars' Built4Life Center under the associate dean of students. A search for Ah You's replacement with the football team will begin immediately, the university said.
In his previous role, Ah You, who graduated in April with a masters of public administration, was responsible for recruiting prospects, promoting current players, and overseeing BYU's annual Pro Day experience that regularly brought scouts from every NFL team to campus in the spring.
In his new role as assistant athletic director fo football academics — a newly created position on campus — Ah You will work closely with associate athletic director for diversity and inclusion Whitney Johnson, Built4Life manager Gary Veron and compliance head Chad Gwilliam in a role that includes tracking academic progress and eligibility, and communicating with coaches, administrators and other support staff.
"Jasen will be tremendous in this role," Sitake said. "I'm happy for him. The administration has given him a great opportunity. I'm very grateful for what Jasen has done on our support staff to help us develop our recruiting, academics and other important areas over the years.
"He truly cares about each individual in our program. He has done a lot to help our players achieve and grow academically and in all aspects of their lives, and I'm excited he will be continuing to support our players on a daily basis in this new capacity."

The expansion of Sitake's football staff in preparation for BYU's jump to the Big 12 in 2023 included adding new personnel to a staff overseen by football chief of staff Jon Swift. The new hires, promotions and reorganizations include director of football operations Billy Nixon, director of football relations Jack Damuni, director of campus experience Brandon Bradley, director of player development Mike Hall, and football nutritionist Dan Wilcox.
The Cougars also brought back former BYU receive Justin Anderson as director of player personnel and former UNLV equipment manager Josh Hewitt to the same role in Provo. That, in addition to new offensive analysts Matt Mitchell and Tyson McDaniel, defensive analyst Gavin Fowler, and two more assistant strength and conditioning coaches.
