SALT LAKE CITY — BYU commit Caden Hasler swept his way to a win in first singles, and American Fork swept the singles competition en route to the program's first boys tennis title Saturday afternoon at the 6A state meet at Liberty Park.

The Cavemen opened Saturday's final round with a big lead that only got bigger as Hasler opened the scoring with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Farmington's Josh Jones in first singles.

American Fork teammate Griffin Karras added a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Farmington's Justin Steed in second singles, and Antoni Ramon completed the sweep with a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4) victory over Corner Canyon's Spencer Willes.

Hasler, a junior, is a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net and the son of BYU women's tennis coach Holly Parkinson-Hasler, who came into the tournament with the No. 1 ranking in 6A after claiming a USTA clay court U-16 national championship last summer. The No. 1-rated tennis recruit in Utah is ranked 57th in the Class of 2023.

"I had a lot of energy," Hasler told the Deseret News. "I definitely felt the nerves, but after the first one or two games, it went away and it means the world to us to win this."

Defending champion and Region 4 rival Lone Peak finished second with 16 points, eight points behind the Cavemen. Corner Canyon and Farmington tied for third with 11 points, easily out-distancing the rest of the field.

The Knights were led by the doubles teams of Nathan Ashton and Abram Robbins, who took first doubles with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over Corner Canyon's Cole and Charlie Jenkins, and Lucas Jackson and Simon Bliss added a 6-3, 6-2 win in second doubles over American Fork's Carson McBeth and Sam Jensen.
