SALT LAKE CITY — Zach Crane and Carson Shakespear rallied from a 6-2 first-set defeat to take the 4A boys tennis state title in second singles, helping the Wolves earn a share of an unprecedented three-way tie for the 4A team title Saturday at Liberty Park.
The duo took a 2-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 win over Isaac Petersen and Davis Low of Ridgeline.
It's the first boys tennis title in school history for the Wolves, who were joined by Ridgeline and Crimson Cliffs in sharing the team title. The Riverhawks also won their program's inaugural state title, while the Mustangs earned at least a share of the championship for the second consecutive season.
Crimson Cliffs' Liam Duffin won first singles with a 6-4, 6-0 sweep of Pine View's Kaden Koch, and Mustang teammate Luke Jolley won second singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Desert Hills' Jackson Holman.
Third singles went to Ridgeline's Ayden Rupp after a 6-2, 6-4 win over Green Canyon's Jack Huish.
Snow Canyon's duo of Braden Koch and Bryce Jensen won first doubles on a tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6 (10) over Green Canyon's Chad Jeppson and Luke Westwood.
In an unprecedented turn of events, we have a three-way tie in the @MountainAmerica 4A boys tennis championship. Hats off to the @Ridgeline_Hawks, @gcwolves and @cchsmustangs! 😲 #PlayPerformCompeteTogetherpic.twitter.com/zYpTYGLbnY
