FILLMORE — A body found in Millard County late last month was confirmed Friday as a Texas man missing in the West Desert, authorities said.
Hikers discovered the body on April 28 in an "extended area" where the truck belonging to Jonathan Barrett Brantley, 22, of Longview, Texas, had been found, the Millard County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
The Utah State Medical Examiner's Office worked to identify the body. His cause of death has not been determined as of Friday.
On April 18, authorities asked for help finding Brantley, who was listed as missing and endangered, after his truck was found around the Notch Peak and Tule Valley area. His cellphone was left in his vehicle, which appeared to have been abandoned "for an unknown amount of time," the sheriff's office said.
Public safety crews and medical examiners recovered the body with the help of the hikers, according to the statement.
"Our deepest condolences go out to Jonathan's friends and family during this extremely difficult time. We express gratitude to all who put forth efforts in the search for Jonathan, including those who spread the news of his search via social media," the sheriff's office said.
